Command Line

There is no problem with your syntax. On my system that works correctly. Are you on W2K? Here is the use at the commandline: %comspec% /K " "c:my scriptstest.vbs" "c:my scriptstest.txt" " This should become the following in VBS: sCommand = "%comspec% /K "" ""c:my scriptstest.vbs"" ""c:my scriptstest...

Adding dynamic content in an HTA

If you need direct access to the properties of any object give teh eelement and id. <input id="myinput" type="checkbox"... if myinput.checked Then ... Jose's method is excellent for grouped controls. Single items are easier with IDs. Don't use a name when you use an ID. In fact the newest HTML spec ...

Help a newbie?

Here is the method I have used in the past. It works best of any method if you can get the mainframe folks to alter their process. The mainframe is either opening the file as shared or it is opening and closing it during the spooling of output. The file mode in the JCL can be altered to keep the fil...

Someone says that maybe RegEx can't easily handle something. Well - look at teh quote below. RegEx is "grredy"? Never heard that before but then it can "gobble" things up. VBScript Limitations?

The actual string allocation is surely done by teh string alloc primitives in teh system. I would expect that PowerShell and CScript would see similar limits. On a server it may be because the system can allocate a larger WOrking set to a process. Microsft has another technique for large strigs that...

I just ran into the same need last week so it was fresh in my head.

Delete unwanted profiles

As I pointed out. YOu can run the script remotely against any number of computers. I have done this many times. Just set the script to run on a subset - say 100 - overnight. YOu could increase it to 300 or 400 and have them done by morning in a fairly fast network. The startup script can do this but...

Ok - I'll play. Running on my system teh script blows up as soon as the page file fills up. Be sure that your paging file has enoughroom. FOr a 400 MB file you would need at least 600 to 700 Mb of free space. If you are trying to load teh whole file so you can scan it you will, most likely, have pro...

Delete unwanted profiles

The Windows Resource Kit contains a utility which can "correctly" delete profiles. It can be used to remove al roaming profiles which will be recreated at next logon. Tjis is , perhaps, teh best way to keep machines clean. It can also be used to delete all local profiles that are not used by the sys...

VBScript Limitations?

I have seen some similar issues when trying to read large files and large bibnary files. SOme issues seem to happen when reading in Unicode files. I think it has to do with the large reads supressing some event responses in CScript. I have worked around this in the past by using the fso.Read( nChars...
