Issue: PowerShell Studio deletes the Search-String if another File-Tab is selected

Post by Jehoschua »

Product: PowerShell Studio 2020 (64 Bit)
Build: v5.7.173
OS: Windows 10 Enterprise (64 Bit)
Build: v10.0.18363.0

Good evening,

Our hope that Sapien will discover and patch this annoying long-term usability problem itself has unfortunately proved to be wrong, hence this ticket.

The Issue is easy to reproduce:
1. Open at least two files in Sapien PowerShell Studio
2. Search for a String in File 1. Use F3 to search the next item.
3. Switch to another File
4. Press F3 to re-use the last search string and search for it
5. Unfortunately, Sapien PowerShell Studio deletes the Search String, if the Customer switches to another File tab :-(

On the one hand we do not know this behaviour in any other IDE,
on the other hand: what benefit do customers have if the search string is deleted?

Please fix this usability issue.

Btw. It would be great, if Sapien PowerShell Studio would not display a Dialog (which must be confirmed!) if F3 was not able to find any other result. Just do nothing, if there is something like a status bar, a "String not found" message would be enough.
If the User press F3 again, then start over searching the String.

This is how most well-known IDEs like Visual Studio, Eclipse, all the JetBrain IDEs and VS Code solve this problem. It works great and is fast and does not interrupt the workflow with a dialogue.

Thanks a lot, kind regards,
Thomas

I've been able to reproduce this behavior and I reported it to the development team. When I have more information, I'll post here.
