Context Help Menu Item Does Not Work

Post by timstspry11 »

Hello, I am using the 64-bit version of PowerShell Studio 2015 on Windows 8.1. I am writing a script and when I highlight any PowerShell cmdlet and then click on the Context Help icon on the Help tab, nothing happens. I have tried this on several cmdlets and nothing works.

I searched this forum and found a post with a title of "Issues on Cmdlet Context Help" and the response came from DavidC. I do have the show help in document explorer option checked.

Any help would be appreciated!

This is an automated post. A real person will respond soon.

Thank you for posting, timstspry11.

Did you remember to include the following?
  • 1. Product, version and build (e.g. Product: PowerShell Studio 2014, Version & Build: 4.1.71. Version and build information can be found in the product's About box accessed by clicking the blue icon with the 'i' in the upper right hand corner of the ribbon.)
    2. Specify if you are running a 32 or 64 bit version
    3. Specify your operating system and if it is 32 or 64 bit.
    4. Attach a screenshot if your issue can be seen on the screen
    5. Attach a zip file if you have multiple files (crash reports, log entries, etc.) related to your issue.
If not, please take a moment to edit your original post or reply to this one.

What build of PowerShell Studio do you have installed?

The context help triggers on the caret position and not necessarily the selection. For testing purposes, move the caret at the start of a cmdlet and see if the help is displayed. If there is no help, for the selected cmdlet, you might not see anything. If the cmdlet as an online link, it will open the link in your default browser.

Hi David, I am using build 4.2.93. Your information about positioning the cursor before the cmdlet I want help with and not necessarily highlighting the cmdlet - this did the trick!

Thanks!

FYI, in the next service build the help will display even if the caret is at the end of the cmdlet. This is probably way it didn't display for you in the first place.
