Back Spacing over Tabs

Post by ferghus » Tue Nov 28, 2006 12:04 pm

I've configued PS to use spaces for tabs. When I press Backspace, I wish PS would backspace over a complete tabwidth of spaces, not just one space.

It backspaces and deletes whatever character is there.
Settingt it to use spaces instead of tabs does not automatically replace existing tab characters.
Look at the Edit - Convert topics to replace tabs with spaces.

Back Spacing over Tabs

I don't think I explained my feature request well:

1. Turn on the option that fills tabs with spaces; set this to 4 spaces per tab

2. On a blank line, press tab a couple of times; you get 8 spaces

3. Press backspace. It moves back one space; I want to move back 4 spaces, since I've configured it to 4 spaces per tab.

Back Spacing over Tabs

Sorry, but that is what tab characters are for.
How would PrimalScript know that, say, two days ago you pressed the tab key there
and not the space bar 4 times?

It simply cannot distinguish between simple spaces and spaces that have been inserted because you pressed tab.
