2025 Updates Installation issues

Post by RodneyK »

Product, version and build:
Product: VersionRecall (64 Bit)
Build: v1.8.174
OS: Windows Server 2019 Standard (64 Bit)
Build: v10.0.17763

PowerShell version(s): 5.1, 7.4.6.0
NET Version: NET8

I have a couple issues installing the 2025 releases.

1. I am unable to install Version Recall 2025 using VRK25Setup_1.8.176_010225_x64.exe. The error is "VersionRecall 2025 cannot be installed on the following Windows versions: Windows Server 2008 R2 x64, Windows Server 2012 x64, Windows Server 2012 R2 x64, Windows Server x64." I have attached the error.

2. The Updater is not working for Download and Install option. When downloading and then launching the exe's one by one, the updater for PS Studio is complaining that C++ 2015-2022 (X64) is not installed when in fact it is. Only when C++ 2015-2022 (X86) is installed does the install complete. Just wanted to note this as well.

I was finally able to update the following software from 2024 to 2025 by using the individual executables.

SAPIEN PowerShell HelpWriter 2025 3.0.70.0
SAPIEN PowerShell ModuleManager 2025 2.0.30.0
SAPIEN PowerShell Studio 2025 5.9.252.0
SAPIEN Updates 1.2.50.0
SAPIEN ScriptMerge 2025 1.6.98.0

Please avoid double posts.
The runtime installers are from Microsoft and sometimes they return that they did not install correctly, even if they did. It is 'usually' safe to just continue.
But I was not there so I do not know what actually was the cause. Regardless, there is no SAPIEN application that requires or includes a 32 bit runtime.
The only time that would be needed is if you want to run and debug scripts in 32 bit mode. But the installers nor the update tool check for that or include it.

VersionRecall was never a server application. Since several users where under the impression that it is and does its thing for all users just connected to the server, we decided to no longer allow its installation on a server OS. Specifically because this may lead to code not being submitted at all when not a single user is logged on.
If you have reservations about this, please let us know what exactly your use case is when installing VersionRecall on a server OS. We can then see how we can help you further.

That is disappointing about Version Recall. The reason it is installed on a server is for security purposes. We have no ability to access the code server directly from our workstations. Outside of PowerShell Studio and a few other products, having the ability to run a local repo was one of the primary reason we purchased the Sapien Dev Ops suite. I hope that Sapien reconsiders this decision.

Can you please elaborate on your setup? What it sounds like is that you have the version control repository on the same machine as the source code?
